The Dog Days of Summer Are Here, But Not For Long!

Forgetfull ImageIt’s been a HOT summer, but it won’t be around forever. Before you know it, September will be here, and you’ll be so busy with the kids and work that you won’t have time for all of those little things that tend to slip your mind. So lets take some time this month to take care of the little things that tend to slip your mind during the year, forgotten filters!

Filters Filters Everywhere

We all know that you should change the filters on your heating and air conditioning units every 6 months, but what about the other filters in your house? How long has it been since you changed them? Some of the items in your house that have washable or replaceable filters are:

Your refrigerator:

RefridgeratorYour fridge makes ice day in and day out, and many of them dispense water as well. Both of these dispensers run that water through a filter, and that filter needs to  be changed. Over time, deposits and even bacteria can build up causing the filter to stop working, and flow through the unit to be restricted. Look up the make and model number of your fridge on the internet and you’ll be able to find the replacement filter number. You’ll be amazed at how much better the ice and water tastes, and how much faster those glasses fill up!

Your vacuum:

Long Island Carpet & Upholstery CleaningIf you’ve got a bagged vacuum, you change the bag when it’s full, but just because you’ve got a bag less vac, that doesn’t mean you’re off the maintenance hook. Most vacuums have  a washable filter, and summertime is the perfect time to pull that out and blast it with the hose. If you’ve got a cyclonic vacuum, from a hoover to a dyson, you’ll also want to remove the cyclone portion of your vacuum and hose that out as well. Dust particles tend to build up over time and as they build up, they block suction. Leave the filters to dry in the sun and pop them back in when they’re fully dry.   It’ll help your vacuum work a lot better, and the air that runs through it would be cleaner.

Your dehumidifier:

Chances are, you’ve been running your dehumidifier all summer, and possibly all winter as well. While most newer models have a filter light that lets you know when to change out and clean your filter, lots of older models just let you wing it. So look over your unit and pull out that filter. Changing those filters help the machine to put out less heat, and function more efficiently. That means you’ll be saving more money while it keeps you more comfortable!
