5 steps to a clean, green driving machine

Go back to Cleaning the upholstery and carpeting

Step 3: Deodorizing

Sometimes cars take on some funky odors that like to hang around indefinitely. Last summer I left a pair of wet water shoes in a very hot car for a few days. The foul car smell was unimaginable and stuck around for a few weeks!

When you have a USS (Unidentified Stinky Smell) in your car, try using this homemade air freshener: 1 tsp dry mustard powder mixed with a quart of hot water. When solution has cooled, spray interior of the car, paying close attention to the air conditioner vents which tend to trap odors (now is the time to break out those q-tips!) By the way, this solution will remove skunk odor as well.

If you had a smoker in your car, you are going to want to try one or more of these tips to remove cigarette odors from leather by using everyday items like dryer sheets, rubbing alcohol or vinegar.

Wipe interior windows and mirror with the Window Cleaner.

Washing your car

Step 4: Washing Your Car

Finish the cleaning process by focusing on your car’s exterior using the Car Wash Solution, Window Cleaner. Chrome Cleaner and Tire Cleaner recipes. All of these solutions are safe for you to use and eliminate the worry about what the run off is doing to the enviornment.

We’ve de-cluttered, de-salted and de-odorized the car leaving us only one thing left to do…keeping it organized and clean! There are a million products on the market that can help you accomplish this but you can keep you car neat and clean with a few items you already have hanging around your home. If you have a small child (or know someone), you have access to a plastic baby wipe container or something similar.

Now on to the last step…almost done!
